How the Portfolio Starter Works

The tool uses three inputs — your investment amount, risk tolerance, and primary goal — to select from 12 pre-built portfolio templates. These templates are based on widely-used allocation principles: conservative portfolios weight heavily toward Bitcoin and Ethereum, while aggressive portfolios spread across emerging Layer 1s, Layer 2 scaling solutions, DeFi protocols, AI tokens, gaming, and more.

Each template defines a percentage allocation per coin. The tool multiplies your investment amount by these percentages to show exact dollar amounts. Every coin links directly to a step-by-step buying guide from our library of 400+ guides.

Understanding the risk levels

Conservative portfolios allocate 70-85% to Bitcoin and Ethereum — the two most liquid and established cryptocurrencies. They still experience significant volatility compared to traditional assets, but represent the lowest risk within the crypto asset class.

Moderate portfolios maintain a 40-50% BTC/ETH core but add meaningful positions in established altcoins like Solana, Chainlink, and Avalanche, plus emerging sectors like AI (Render, ASI Alliance) and DeFi (Aave, Maker). The diversification provides exposure to multiple sectors while maintaining a stable foundation.

Aggressive portfolios reduce BTC to 10-15% or remove it entirely, spreading allocation across 13-18 coins spanning Layer 2s (Arbitrum, Optimism), DeFi (Uniswap, Injective), AI (Render, Bittensor), gaming (Immutable), and meme coins (DOGE, PEPE). Highest growth potential but also highest risk.

The 8 sectors explained

Layer 1 blockchains (BTC, ETH, SOL, AVAX, SUI, etc.) are the foundational networks that process transactions. Livello 2 solutions (ARB, OP, MATIC) scale these networks by processing transactions off the main chain. DeFi protocols (UNI, AAVE, MKR) enable lending, trading, and yield without intermediaries. Infrastructure projects (LINK, DOT, GRT, FIL) provide essential services like oracles, cross-chain communication, indexing, and storage. AI tokens (RENDER, FET, TAO) power decentralized compute, machine learning, and GPU rendering. Gaming projects (IMX, SAND, AXS) build blockchain-based gaming economies. Payments networks (XRP, LTC, HBAR) focus on fast, cheap value transfer. Meme coins (DOGE, SHIB, PEPE) are community-driven tokens with high volatility.

Important Principles for Beginners

Start smaller than you think

The minimum on the slider is $50, and that's a perfectly valid starting amount. The goal of a first investment isn't to get rich — it's to learn how the process works with real money at stake. You can always add more later.

Dollar-cost averaging beats timing

Instead of investing everything at once, consider splitting into weekly or monthly purchases. Our Calcolatore delle tasse can show you the annual cost of regular purchases on different exchanges.

This is a starting point, not a final answer

No tool can predict which crypto will perform best. Treat this portfolio as a research-backed starting point, then adjust based on your own learning and conviction. The buying guides linked for each coin provide deeper context about what each project does.
