How To Buy BitTorrent (BTT)?
A common question you often see on social media from crypto beginners is “Where can I buy BitTorrent?” Well, you’ll be happy to hear it is actually quite a simple and straightforward process.
Step 1: Create an account on an exchange that supports BitTorrent (BTT)
First, you will need to open an account on a cryptocurrency exchange that supports BitTorrent (BTT).
We recommend the following based on functionality, reputation, security, support and fees:
1
Binance
Fees (Maker/Taker) 0.075%*-0.1%*
Cryptocurrencies
Available for Trade 500+
Sign-up bonus
10% reduced trading fees*

North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Oceania, Africa
In order to sign up, you will need to enter some basic information, such as your email address, password, full name and, in some cases, you might also be asked for a phone number or address.
Note: On specific exchanges, you might need to complete a Know Your Customer (KYC) procedure in order to be able to purchase cryptocurrency. This is most commonly the case with licensed and regulated exchanges.
Step 2: Deposit funds into your account
Many cryptocurrency exchanges will allow you to purchase BitTorrent (BTT) with fiat currencies, such as EUR, USD, AUD and others. Furthermore, they will also provide you with multiple deposit methods through which you can fund your fiat account, such as credit and debit cards, ewallets or direct bank transfers.
Note: Some payment methods will have higher fees than others, such as credit card payments. Before funding your fiat account on your chosen exchange, make sure to do your due diligence to find out the fees involved with each payment method to avoid unnecessary costs.
Step 3: Buy BitTorrent (BTT)
This process is similar across almost every cryptocurrency exchange. All you have to do is find a navigation bar or a search bar, and search for BitTorrent (BTT) or BitTorrent (BTT) trading pairs. Look for the section that will allow you to buy BitTorrent (BTT), and enter the amount of the cryptocurrency that you want to spend for BitTorrent (BTT) or the amount of fiat currency that you want to spend towards buying BitTorrent (BTT). The exchange will then calculate the equivalent amount of BitTorrent (BTT) based on the current market rate.
Note: Make sure to always double-check your transaction details, such as the amount of BitTorrent (BTT) you will be buying as well as the total cost of the purchase before you end up confirming the transaction. Furthermore, many cryptocurrency exchanges will offer you their own proprietary software wallet where you will be storing your cryptocurrencies; however, you can create your own individual software wallet, or purchase a hardware wallet for the highest level of protection.

What Is BitTorrent (BTT)?
BitTorrent is a popular peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing and torrent platform which has become increasingly decentralized in recent years. Originally released in July 2001, BitTorrent was purchased by blockchain platform TRON in July 2018.
Since its acquisition, BitTorrent has added various new tools, with a dedicated native cryptocurrency token, BTT, released in February 2019. BTT was launched on TRON’s own blockchain, using its TRC-10 standard.
According to its official literature, BitTorrent is currently the “largest decentralized P2P communications protocol” in the world.
Who Are the Founders of BitTorrent?
The original BitTorrent is the brainchild of Bram Cohen, a developer and entrepreneur who himself has since become well known in the cryptocurrency arena. Cohen has explained that he designed BitTorrent to usurp the dated entertainment industry, which made obtaining material slow and expensive. The platform has seen multiple legal battles, with Cohen maintaining that it does not break copyright laws in allowing users to share files such as music and movies among themselves.
In 2018, TRON completed its acquisition of BitTorrent, bringing BitTorrent under the control of Justin Sun. Sun is notorious for his plugging of both TRON as a cryptocurrency and its blockchain technology, bidding $4.5 million at a charity auction to have lunch with Warren Buffett (well-known anti-crypto figure) and discuss cryptocurrency with him.
TRON is also behind the addition of cryptocurrency to BitTorrent, as the BTT token was released on TRON’s blockchain. The move formed part of TRON’s efforts to add further decentralized features to the platform.
What Makes BitTorrent Unique?
BitTorrent’s original goal was to disrupt the legacy entertainment industry and how consumers obtain content. Expensive and inefficient distribution networks were the main target, with original developer Bram Cohen seeing benefits in allowing internet users to distribute content among themselves directly.
In the early 2000s, BitTorrent became the go-to P2P file sharing platform, with TRON stepping in 2018. Under TRON, BitTorrent has expanded its user appeal to those interested in decentralized solutions and cryptocurrency, as well as to its own user base.
Among the added features are BitTorrent Speed, which uses the BTT token as part of its operations. BitTorrent has also branched out into paid services, offering several “premium” versions of its platform which include VPN capabilities and ad-free browsing.
What is the BitTorrent File System (BTFS)?
The BitTorrent file system is both a protocol and network implementation that provides a p2p mechanism for storing and sharing digital content in a decentralized filing system.
Traditional file storage systems have many disadvantages, including centralization or control by a single entity, the ability for governments to censor, higher costs, and low fault tolerance.
BTFS is a decentralized file storage system supported by millions of BitTorrent user nodes. By running on the blockchain, which has a Delegated proof of Stake method of processing blockchain transactions, BTFS addresses these limitations. BTFS represents the first decentralized storage system that can be used by decentralized application (DApp) developers. BTFS is a file system encompassing the dual nature of storage and transfer. Users can ensure some storage persistency by pinning their files to their BTFS nodes. When other nodes in the network request the file, that file duplicates via the requesting nodes. BTFS also allows the efficient and secure transfer of files between nodes located across regions. This makes BTFS an ideal choice in file transfer.
How does BTFS differ from IPFS?
BTFS is a fork of IPFS. However, BTFS hosts a variety of unique features. For example, BTFS has native support for both file removal and file encryption/decryption. This allows users to easily remove illegal or copyrighted material on their nodes as well as securely transfer and store files. BTFS is also uniquely integrated with the TRON blockchain, as users can initiate nodes via wallets that support TRON.
What is the BitTorrent (BTT) token?
BitTorrent Inc. introduced a TRON TRC-10 cryptographic token called BitTorrent Token (BTT). BTT acts as a general purpose mechanism for transacting in computing resources shared between BitTorrent clients and a liquid market of service requesters and service providers. BTT is the unit denominating transactions for the provision of services in the BTT-enabled BitTorrent ecosystem. BTT is available as a divisible token, allowing for granular pricing. Adding a BTT token extends the familiar protocol to create a token-based economy for network resources, bandwidth, and storage resources on an existing BitTorrent network, giving network members the opportunity to appreciate the value of bandwidth and storage sharing.
Bittorrent development updates in 2023
Bittorrent has seen significant developments in 2023. Here’s an overview of the most important updates:
-
BitTorrent Speed Integration: BitTorrent Speed has been integrated as a feature in BitTorrent and µTorrent Web, as well as µTorrent Classic. This integration allows users to gain faster download speeds by providing BTT tokens to uploaders. This incentivizes uploaders to seed files longer and dedicate more resources to the network, thus powering a healthier BitTorrent protocol.
-
BitTorrent File System (BTFS): BitTorrent has been working on the BitTorrent File System, a decentralized file storage system. BTFS is designed to address the limitations of traditional file storage systems, such as centralization and control by a single entity, censorship, higher costs, and low fault tolerance. It’s a part of BitTorrent’s move towards leveraging blockchain technology for decentralized applications (DApps).
-
Broadening BTT Accessibility: BTT, a TRC-20 utility token, is now available to U.S users and can be purchased in USD or EURO. This marks a significant step in making the token more accessible to a wider audience and integrating it further into the cryptocurrency market.
-
Ecosystem Expansion: BitTorrent is continuously working on expanding its ecosystem, with several decentralized protocols and applications in development or planned for future release. These developments are set to enhance the functionality and utility of BTT within the BitTorrent network.
-
Network Growth: The Tron network, on which the BTT token is issued, has hit a significant milestone of 200 million users. This growth indicates a widening user base and increased adoption of the network, which could positively impact the utility and value of BTT.
These updates mark a significant milestone in BitTorrent’s evolution, highlighting its commitment to improving functionality, scalability, and user experience within the cryptocurrency and decentralized file-sharing space.

Best cryptocurrency wallet for BitTorrent (BTT)
There are plenty of different crypto wallets available. The best one for you depends on your general trading habits and which provides the most security in your situation. There are two main types of wallets: hot storage wallets (digital) and cold storage or hardware wallets (physical). Both have their pros and cons, and there is not necessarily a right or wrong answer when it comes to figuring out which crypto wallet is best for you.
HOW DO I DECIDE WHICH cryptocurrency WALLET TO USE for BitTorrent (BTT)?
Deciding which type of wallet to use depends on a variety of factors, including:
- How often you trade. In general, hot wallets are better for more active cryptocurrency traders. Quick login ability means you are only a few clicks and taps away from buying and selling crypto. Cold wallets are better suited for those looking to make less frequent trades.
- What you want to trade. As mentioned earlier, not all wallets support all types of cryptocurrencies. However, some of the best crypto wallets have the power to trade hundreds of different currencies, providing more of a one-size-fits-all experience.
- Your peace of mind. For those worried about hacking, having a physical cold wallet stored in a safe deposit box at the bank or somewhere at home, provides the safest, most secure option. Others might be confident in their ability to keep their hot wallets secure.
- How much it costs. It is important to investigate the costs associated with each wallet. Many hot wallets will be free to set up. Meanwhile, cold wallets, like any piece of hardware, will cost money to purchase.
- What it can do. While the basics of each cryptocurrency wallet are the same, additional features can help set them apart. This is especially true of hot wallets, many of which come with advanced reporting features, insights into the crypto market, the ability to convert cryptocurrencies and more. Security features can also be a good differentiator.
For a more in-depth overview of cryptocurrency wallets visit our “Cryptocurrency Wallets Explained” guide.
If you’re going to be dealing in larger volumes of crypto, investing in cold storage might prove advantageous.
Most widespead examples of this being the Ledger Nano and the Trezor.
Ledger manufactures cold storage wallets designed for users who want increased security. Their wallets are a physical device that connects to your computer. Only when the device is connected can you send your cryptocurrency from it. Ledger offers a variety of products, such as the Ledger Nano S and the Ledger Nano X (a bluetooth connected hardware wallet).
Trezor is a pioneering hardware wallet company. The combination of world-class security with an intuitive interface and compatibility with other desktop wallets, makes it ideal for beginners and experts alike. The company has gained a lot of the Bitcoin community’s respect over the years. Trezor offers two main models – The Trezor One and Trezor Model T (which has a built in touch screen).
