What drives meme coins?

Browse the buying guides

Meme coins build their identity around internet culture, jokes or communities. Some develop applications or payment uses, but many trade primarily on attention and expectations of future demand. The category describes a theme rather than a common technology: a meme coin may run on its own chain or be a token issued on another network.

How it works

A small unit price does not make a token cheap; circulating supply and market capitalization give it context. Liquidity also matters because a quoted price may only be available for a small trade. Concentrated holdings, minting permissions, transfer restrictions or removable liquidity can make exits difficult. Community size can be inflated, and a copied name or ticker can point to an unrelated contract. Evaluate the token’s mechanics and market independently of its popularity.
