Gate Review 2026: Asset Choice, Spot Fees and Withdrawals

Researched and updated: 25 October 2026

Gate, formerly commonly called Gate.io, offers a broad range of crypto markets and products. This review focuses on ordinary spot purchases and the checks that turn a token listing into a usable route: the correct regional service, a functioning market and a supported withdrawal network.

This review focuses on buying and withdrawing spot crypto. Fees, eligibility and available products depend on your country and account.

Our assessment

Gate is worth researching when it has the specific spot asset you need and the market has sufficient depth for your order. Its extensive product menu requires care: spot, pre-market, derivatives and promotional allocations are different exposures. Start with the asset and your withdrawal route, then compare costs. More listings do not make every market liquid or every product suitable.

Why consider this exchange?

Consider Gate when the specific spot market you need is active and its funding, trading and withdrawal routes fit your requirements. Read the asset’s listing and maintenance notices before committing funds.

When to compare alternatives

Compare alternatives if the applicable regional service lacks a required product, the pair is thinly traded, or your preferred withdrawal network is unavailable. Global and regional services can have different offerings.

Fees: what you actually pay

Spot maker0.10%
Spot taker0.10%

Gate’s fee-change notice effective 9 April 2026 retains VIP 0 spot rates of 0.10% maker and 0.10% taker, with 0.09% shown for the applicable GT fee option. Check the live fee page for your account, market and regional service. GT discounts involve holding an exchange token. Payment-provider costs, spreads and withdrawal fees must be compared separately from trading commission.

Official fee information

A simple fee calculation

On a $500 spot order, a 0.10% trading fee is $0.50. That is one trade, before funding charges, spread, slippage and withdrawal costs. Buying and later selling means two executions. A limit order is not automatically a maker order: it may match immediately and pay the taker rate.

Country access and identity checks

Gate’s global agreement lists numerous restricted locations, including the US, UK, Canada, France and Germany. Gate EU and other regional services have their own entities and rules; a group licence is not permission to use every Gate product everywhere. Gate EU’s KYC guide requires verification before deposits or withdrawals. Confirm which service can accept you and which assets and networks it supports.

Eligibility and account requirements

Follow the buying route

Confirm which Gate service accepts customers in your country, then select Trade → Spot and the exact pair. Review fees and open orders after submitting; keep withdrawal-network checks separate from choosing the market.

Understand order types

A market price is not a price guarantee

Imagine buying 100 tokens from this small order book. The cheapest seller cannot fill the whole order. This is why liquidity matters more than the last traded price.

Example sell orders
Price Tokens Cost
$1.00 40 $40
$1.05 60 $63
Total 100 $103

Illustrative USD amounts, before fees; not live market data.

Market order: $103

Buying all 100 tokens consumes both price levels: 40 × $1.00 + 60 × $1.05. The average is $1.03, even though the best displayed ask was $1.00.

Limit order at $1.00: only 40 fill

A buy limit caps the unit price, not the waiting time. With these sell orders unchanged, the other 60 tokens remain unfilled. A limit order that immediately matches existing orders can still incur taker fees.

Security, custody and the track record

Check the legal entity holding your assets, its custody terms and the account’s withdrawal controls. Gate’s group licensing page identifies different entities and permissions; those should not be collapsed into a claim that the entire global platform has identical protection. Reserve disclosures are useful evidence to inspect, but do not guarantee solvency or immediate withdrawals. Keep records and check maintenance notices for the asset you intend to move.

Exchange balance or your own wallet?

An exchange controls the keys to assets held in your account. A self-custody wallet gives you control and responsibility for the recovery phrase. Choose deliberately: withdrawal availability, backup practices and the amount kept ready for trading all matter.

Questions worth answering before you register

Can I withdraw on any network with the same ticker?

Open the receiving wallet’s deposit instructions first. Both sides must support the same token on the same network; a matching ticker or address format is not enough. Include a memo or destination tag when required. Check minimums and fees before a small test transfer, then verify receipt before sending more.

Choose and understand a wallet

Does proof of reserves mean my funds are guaranteed?

Enable strong authentication and withdrawal protections, and use support reached through the official site or app. Proof of reserves can help inspect reported backing, but is not a full financial audit, deposit insurance or a guarantee of withdrawal access. Keep recovery phrases private; support should never need them.

Should a signup bonus decide which exchange I use?

Referral rewards may require identity checks, deposits or trading activity and can expire. Read the offer terms, distinguish trading credits from withdrawable cash, and compare the underlying costs first.

Referral guide and offer terms

Research the platform. Then choose the asset.

Use the exchange’s asset directory to find a buying guide, then explore the token’s topic and network. A directory listing is a research connection, not a recommendation or confirmation that trading is available to your account.
