In order to sign up, you will need to enter some basic information, such as your email address, password, full name and, in some cases, you might also be asked for a phone number or address.

Note: On specific exchanges, you might need to complete a Know Your Customer (KYC) procedure in order to be able to purchase cryptocurrency. This is most commonly the case with licensed and regulated exchanges.

Step 2: Deposit funds into your account

Many cryptocurrency exchanges will allow you to purchase Aptos (APT) with fiat currencies, such as EUR, USD, AUD and others. Furthermore, they will also provide you with multiple deposit methods through which you can fund your fiat account, such as credit and debit cards, ewallets or direct bank transfers.

Note: Some payment methods will have higher fees than others, such as credit card payments. Before funding your fiat account on your chosen exchange, make sure to do your due diligence to find out the fees involved with each payment method to avoid unnecessary costs.

Step 3: Buy Aptos (APT)

This process is similar across almost every cryptocurrency exchange. All you have to do is find a navigation bar or a search bar, and search for Aptos (APT) or Aptos (APT) trading pairs. Look for the section that will allow you to buy Aptos (APT), and enter the amount of the cryptocurrency that you want to spend for Aptos (APT) or the amount of fiat currency that you want to spend towards buying Aptos (APT). The exchange will then calculate the equivalent amount of Aptos (APT) based on the current market rate.

Note: Make sure to always double-check your transaction details, such as the amount of Aptos (APT) you will be buying as well as the total cost of the purchase before you end up confirming the transaction. Furthermore, many cryptocurrency exchanges will offer you their own proprietary software wallet where you will be storing your cryptocurrencies; however, you can create your own individual software wallet, or purchase a hardware wallet for the highest level of protection.

What is Aptos (APT)?

The Aptos blockchain is a Proof-of-Stake-based Layer 1 blockchain that combines parallel transaction processing with a new smart contract language called Move to achieve a theoretical transaction throughput that is greater than 100,000 transactions per second. Aptos was developed by the company Aptos Inc. The project, which is considered the technological successor to Meta’s abandoned blockchain project Diem, is the brainchild of two former Meta engineers, Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching.

The news that Aptos had secured $200 million in a seed round, led by the well-known venture capital company Andreessen Horowitz, broke in March of this year, which was the month that Aptos was first able to make ripples in the cryptocurrency business. A Series A funding round led by FTX Ventures and Jump Crypto brought in an additional $150 million at a pre-money valuation of $1.9 billion for the startup in July. Its valuation reached $4 billion two months later in a venture raise led by Binance Labs, at which time it had raised a total of $450 million.

It is important to note that Aptos completed all of these tasks prior to the launch of its blockchain, which didn’t occur until October 17 (mainnet launch date). Aptos did an airdrop of 150 APT tokens, which were valued around $1,237 each at launch, in order to reward the early adopters of its testnet and equitably divide the first token allotment. There were 110,235 addresses that were eligible for the airdrop. According to statistics provided by CoinGecko, Aptos now has a completely diluted market valuation of about $9.2 billion. This is the case despite the fact that the network has seen very little activity since it only launched a few days ago. In addition to its history and connections to Meta, the pricing of the project has sparked some debate.

How does Aptos work?

Aptos makes use of important components derived from the Diem blockchain as well as Move, a programming language based on Rust that was independently created by Meta. The business further asserts that the network will be able to perform more than 130 thousand transactions per second by utilizing its parallel execution engine (Block-STM), which would result in reduced transaction costs for customers.

“To maximize throughput, increase concurrency, and reduce engineering complexity, transaction processing on the Aptos blockchain is divided into separate stages. Each stage is completely independent and individually parallelizable, resembling modern, superscalar processor architectures. Not only does this provide significant performance benefits, but also enables the Aptos blockchain to offer new modes of validator-client interaction.”

To provide some background, the majority of blockchains either execute smart contracts in a sequential manner or demand a vast parallel workload for enhanced speed, both of which need a significant amount of power. When compared to other blockchains, Aptos is unique in that a single failed transaction would not halt the entire chain of transactions. Instead, each transaction is processed simultaneously and then verified after it has been processed. The ones that did not succeed are terminated and re-executed, and this is made possible by their STM (software transactional memory) libraries, which are able to identify and manage conflicts.

As a consequence of this, the combination of these technologies improves the throughput capacity of the entire network, which has traditionally been a significant bottleneck for existing layer-1 blockchains. According to the white paper that Aptos put out in August 2022, the following is a condensed version of the company’s execution of smart contracts. Their business strategy is predicated on the usage of cloud infrastructure as a scalable and cost-effective platform for the development of apps that are widely utilized.

On its blockchain, Aptos makes it possible for DeFi initiatives to be established. On the Aptos ecosystem, there are now around 30 different DeFi projects in various stages of development. Decentralized exchanges, lending protocols, and liquid staking are among of the initiatives that fall under this category. An illustration of this would be the margin trading protocol known as Aries Markets.

What is Aptos

What is the Aptos (APT) Token?

The Aptos platform’s native token is denoted with the symbol APT. On the Aptos blockchain, transaction and network fees may be paid for with the APT token.

Every single transaction that takes place on the network will incur fees, which will be denominated in Aptos tokens. On the Aptos network, validators will have the ability to prioritize transactions with the highest value and ignore transactions with a lower value. Validators will also be able to reject transactions of lesser value. As a consequence of this, the blockchain would continue to be able to function effectively even after the system reached its maximum capacity. At some point in the future, network fees will also be implemented. This will ensure that the cost of utilizing Aptos is commensurate to the expenses of deploying hardware, performing maintenance, and operating nodes.

A proof-of-stake mechanism may also be utilized to safeguard the blockchain, which can be done with the help of APT. Additionally, governance voting on changes to the protocol and on/off-chain operations can be done using APT.

Validators on the Aptos blockchain must own a certain minimum quantity of staked APT tokens in order to take part in the transaction validation process. One of the advantages of serving as a validator is the ability to determine how the benefits will be distributed between oneself and the other parties that have staked. Stakeholders, on the other hand, have the ability to choose any number of validators with whom they choose to invest their tokens in order to get a predetermined portion of the benefits. At the conclusion of each epoch, validators and stakers will each receive their rewards for their participation.

The maximum reward rate for stakers is now set to begin at 7% per annum, and this amount is reassessed at each epoch. On the other hand, the maximum return for wagering will gradually fall by 1.5% every year until it hits 3.25% per year. However, the governance voting process allows for any and all incentive levels and processes to be adjusted.

Who are the founders of Aptos?

Aptos Labs is the organization that is responsible for the Aptos project. They are presently in charge of a multi-disciplinary group of software developers, engineers, and business strategists that reports to the co-founders Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching.

Both Shaikh and Ching were working on the Diem blockchain project at Meta, which is where they first became acquainted. Shaikh is an expert in increasing the scale of goods and has previous experience working in the private equity and venture capital industries. During this time, Ching served as one of the most important software engineers at Meta. He was also the leader of a variety of fascinating and forward-thinking development projects in the past. As a result of Meta’s decision to abandon the Diem project, Shaikh and Ching came to the conclusion that they should form Aptos Labs together.

The phrase “Building a Layer 1 for everyone” serves as the company motto for Aptos Labs. The firm is committed to developing a network that is both trustworthy and secure to the greatest extent feasible. Even though they have only been operating for a short period of time, their goal has already garnered a significant amount of support. Aptos Labs was able to successfully secure more than $350 million in capital over the course of two separate fundraising rounds, deploy its developer testnet, and effectively manage millions of transactions and thousands of nodes.

Best cryptocurrency wallet for Aptos (APT)

There are plenty of different crypto wallets available. The best one for you depends on your general trading habits and which provides the most security in your situation. There are two main types of wallets: hot storage wallets (digital) and cold storage or hardware wallets (physical). Both have their pros and cons, and there is not necessarily a right or wrong answer when it comes to figuring out which crypto wallet is best for you.

HOW DO I DECIDE WHICH cryptocurrency WALLET TO USE for Aptos (APT)?

Deciding which type of wallet to use depends on a variety of factors, including:

  • How often you trade. In general, hot wallets are better for more active cryptocurrency traders. Quick login ability means you are only a few clicks and taps away from buying and selling crypto. Cold wallets are better suited for those looking to make less frequent trades.
  • What you want to trade. As mentioned earlier, not all wallets support all types of cryptocurrencies. However, some of the best crypto wallets have the power to trade hundreds of different currencies, providing more of a one-size-fits-all experience.
  • Your peace of mind. For those worried about hacking, having a physical cold wallet stored in a safe deposit box at the bank or somewhere at home, provides the safest, most secure option. Others might be confident in their ability to keep their hot wallets secure.
  • How much it costs. It is important to investigate the costs associated with each wallet. Many hot wallets will be free to set up. Meanwhile, cold wallets, like any piece of hardware, will cost money to purchase.
  • What it can do. While the basics of each cryptocurrency wallet are the same, additional features can help set them apart. This is especially true of hot wallets, many of which come with advanced reporting features, insights into the crypto market, the ability to convert cryptocurrencies and more. Security features can also be a good differentiator.

For a more in-depth overview of cryptocurrency wallets visit our “Cryptocurrency Wallets Explained” guide.

If you’re going to be dealing in larger volumes of crypto, investing in cold storage might prove advantageous.
Most widespead examples of this being the Ledger Nano and the Trezor.

Ledger manufactures cold storage wallets designed for users who want increased security. Their wallets are a physical device that connects to your computer. Only when the device is connected can you send your cryptocurrency from it. Ledger offers a variety of products, such as the Ledger Nano S and the Ledger Nano X (a bluetooth connected hardware wallet).

Trezor is a pioneering hardware wallet company. The combination of world-class security with an intuitive interface and compatibility with other desktop wallets, makes it ideal for beginners and experts alike. The company has gained a lot of the Bitcoin community’s respect over the years. Trezor offers two main models – The Trezor One and Trezor Model T (which has a built in touch screen).
